Our Mission
The mission of Blue Box is to provide psychotherapy services to vulnerable children, young people and their families to realise their full potential through research-based, innovative, professional, accredited Creative Arts Therapies. Priority is given to the most socially & economically disadvantaged children in Limerick.
We are here to support the well-being & mental health of vulnerable children and young people (3-18 yrs) who are marginalised and traumatised by domestic and environmental factors. Through the Creative Arts Psychotherapy model as a research informed practice, we address the emotional, cognitive and developmental needs of vulnerable children and families living in Limerick by developing therapy interventions in response to the mental health and well-being needs of children in schools and community settings. By partnering with HSE, Mental Health, TUSLA, Youth Services and Schools/Education services, as well as other community organisations, we are responding to the growing need for child appropriate psychological intervention services for traumatised children.
Through the medium of Creative Arts Psychotherapy, we work with traumatised children & their families to create a healthier, more pro-active participation in their own lives, schools, communities and society. Blue Box is the only charity that provides free support and Therapy services to children/youth in Limerick requested by schools, social workers, HSE, CAMHS, TUSLA, community organisations and local families. We provide services to 13 secondary and primary schools as well as on-site services at Blue Box and outreach services to community organisations and local families. We have supported 211 children and their families in 2020/2021 delivering 3247 hours of service, and continually have new referrals from schools and communities that we are unable to serve.
As the only service of its kind that offers a professional Therapy service in-house and in schools, Blue Box is an essential service that benefits children’s educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs, that affects the classroom and the ambiance of the school overall, and importantly, the family and future generations.
