Drama Therapy
Drama Therapy is a creative and evidence-informed form of psychotherapy that uses storytelling, role play, imagination, movement, and creative expression to help children and young people explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Many children find it difficult to put their emotions into words. Drama Therapy offers an alternative way of communicating through stories, characters, puppets, improvisation, creative play, and symbolic expression. This can help children process difficult experiences, develop self-awareness, build confidence, and strengthen emotional resilience.
At Blue Box, Drama Therapy is tailored to the individual needs of each child or young person. Sessions provide a safe space where they can explore challenges such as anxiety, trauma, bereavement, loss, emotional difficulties, low self-esteem, behavioural concerns, or relationship issues.
Drama Therapy can help children and young people to:
- Express and understand their feelings
- Develop confidence and self-esteem
- Build communication and social skills
- Process difficult experiences safely
- Strengthen emotional regulation
- Explore new ways of coping with challenges
- Develop resilience and positive relationships
Our Drama Therapy approach is child-centred, trauma-informed, and creative. By engaging imagination and storytelling, children can discover new perspectives, develop coping strategies, and experience meaningful personal growth in a way that feels natural and accessible to them.
